Early Career Reviewer Development Program
The QES Academic Press Early Career Reviewer Development Program is intended to help eligible postgraduate scholars, early-career researchers and developing reviewers build competence in ethical, constructive and methodologically informed peer review. Participation is educational and does not guarantee appointment as an independent reviewer.
Suggested eligibility
- Postgraduate student, research scholar, faculty member or early-career researcher in a field relevant to a QES journal.
- Demonstrable research exposure, such as publications, thesis/research work or methodological training appropriate to the intended review field.
- Commitment to confidentiality, conflict-of-interest disclosure and respectful scholarly conduct.
- Ability to complete training and supervised review activities within agreed timelines.
Learning pathway

Orientation. Purpose of peer review, confidentiality, conflicts of interest and reviewer ethics.

Critical appraisal. Study design, methods, statistics, reporting guidelines and interpretation.

Review writing. Organizing major/minor comments, tone, evidence and actionable feedback.

Supervised experience. Selected review exercises or co-review under editorial control where appropriate.

Assessment. Evaluation of review quality, professionalism and reliability.

Progression. Independent reviewer invitations only when the relevant editor considers expertise and performance appropriate.
Recognition
Certificates or other recognition may be issued for completed training or qualifying reviewer service where such recognition has been formally implemented. Recognition should describe the activity accurately and should not imply certification, professional licensure, employment or guaranteed editorial appointment.
